Triad Health Project declares Winter Walk for AIDS a tremendous success
GREENSBORO, N.C. - Triad Health Project (THP), the area's HIV/AIDS service organization, is delighted to announce that last month's annual Winter Walk for AIDS raised more than $140,000, making it the most successful Winter Walk in the event's 20 year history.
"For a non-profit to meet its goal on a special event in these cheallenging times is a major achievement," says Addison Ore, THP's executive director. "To exceed our goal by over 35 percent is nothing short of miraculous and is a testament to the amazing generosity of our community."
The Winter Walk for AIDS is held each year to commemorate World AIDS Day and raise bot HIV/AIDS awareness and vital funding for THP programs and services. Funds generated though the Winter Walk help sustain services that THP provides to nearly 500 people living with HIV/AIDS in Guilford County, as well as HIV testing and prevention education programs that reach hundreds more in the community each year.
This latest Winter Walk honored three significant milestones: the 20th Winter Walk, the 25th Anniversary of THP, and the 30th Anniversary of the first cases of AIDS in the United States. The 2011 walk was co-chaired by prominent community learders Parker Washburn, owner of Leon's Beauty School and Salons, and Greensboro attorney, Ron Johnson. Presenting sponsors of the event were American Express, Walgreens, Greensboro Parks and Recreation, and Parker Washburn, Ron Johnson, and Connie Wyrick.
